About AI WISE
AI WISE is a four-phase process for collaborating with artificial intelligence through intentional inquiry. It helps people examine the questions, assumptions, and frames they bring into the exchange, then remain active in shaping, testing, applying, and learning from what emerges. Its purpose is to protect human discernment, agency, and responsibility while expanding our capacity to think more deeply with AI rather than surrendering thought to it.
We bring purpose, context, values, responsibility, and interpretation. AI draws on vast patterns of human knowledge to help expand what we can see and consider. Through human–AI collaboration, we refine the inquiry and shape what emerges toward a meaningful goal.
The central question
AI is already woven into how we write, plan, search, create, and decide. The question is no longer whether we'll use it. It's how we choose to.
Some step back, overwhelmed by the pace. Others approach AI as a production tool by crafting a prompt, receiving an answer, and moving quickly toward completion.
AI WISE offers another path: pause before engaging, interact intentionally, integrate what emerges with grounded perspective and insight, apply it thoughtfully, and learn from what happens next.
AI often reflects and amplifies the assumptions, language, and orientation we bring into an exchange. But when we shift into expansive inquiry, we open the field beyond the limits of the initial frame and allow new possibilities to emerge. AI can then become a window rather than only a mirror. That is the power of critical inquiry in human-AI collaboration.
Framework & mindset
Four connected phases turn a quick request into an intentional inquiry, while keeping human perspective, responsibility, and learning at the center.
Pause before engaging
Clarify what you are trying to understand, create, or decide. Consider what you already know, what assumptions may be shaping the question, what context matters, and whether AI is the right resource.
Engage intentionally
Treat the exchange as a conversation rather than a one-time request. Add context, ask follow-up questions, invite alternatives, challenge assumptions, and redirect the conversation as your understanding develops.
Integrate and prepare
Bring what emerged into relationship with your own knowledge, experience, evidence, values, and purpose. Check what matters, request changes, reject what does not belong, and create the final direction, decision, or product for which you remain responsible.
Learn through reflection
After applying the result, examine what actually happened. Consider what worked, what did not, what surprised you, and what new information should shape the next decision, revision, or AI-supported inquiry.
AI WISE is a continuous process.Rather than treating each exchange as separate, each inquiry informs the next. This could show up as iterating on a project after a good night's sleep or as posing better questions to create the next new dialogue. Over time, reflection before the next inquiry strengthens your approach, and the whole practice becomes reflexive.
The goal isn't just a creation or solution.
It's a more capable human.
The Book
The Art of the Question began with one question posed to three artificial intelligence systems:
“If you were to write a book what would you write it about?”
Gemini, ChatGPT, and Claude converged on the same territory: curiosity, understanding, and the art of asking better questions. Developed through an evolving dialogue among the three systems, the book examines how questions shape attention, carry assumptions, open or close possibility, and influence the answers we receive.
It is part creative experiment, part philosophical inquiry, and a foundational work beneath the development of AI WISE. In an age of instant answers, the question is no longer whether we will engage with AI. It is how we will develop the discernment to do so wisely.
